Technical Specifications
Key Benefits & Compliance
Substrates & Preparation
- High-solids SBR carboxylated styrene-butadiene latex.
- Significantly improves bond strength and flexural properties.
- Provides excellent resistance to water and water vapor.
- Reduces shrinkage and minimizes cracking in thin-coat renders.
- Enhanced chemical resistance for harsh environments.
- Complies with BS EN 934-3 as an admixture.
KA-Bond SBR is suitable for use on concrete, sand/cement screeds, brickwork, and blockwork. All surfaces must be structurally sound, clean, and free from oil, grease, or loose material.
Highly porous substrates should be pre-wetted to a saturated surface dry condition before the application of SBR-modified bonding slurries or mortars.
KA-Bond SBR Application Guide
1. Mixing Ratios & Preparation
KA-Bond SBR should be diluted with water depending on the application requirement. Ensure all tools are clean before mixing. For bonding slurries, use a mechanical mixer to ensure a consistent, lump-free paste.
- As a Bonding Primer: Mix 1 part KA-Bond SBR to 1 part water, then mix with 3 parts cement.
- In Renders/Screeds: Mix 1 part KA-Bond SBR to 4 parts water for general improvement.
- Technical Tip: Always add the liquid to the powder when making slurries.
2. Applying the Bonding Slurry
The key to a successful bond is applying the follow-on coat while the bonding slurry is still wet. If the slurry dries, it will act as a de-bonder and must be mechanically removed before re-application.
- Dampen the substrate with clean water until saturated (no standing water).
- Brush the slurry vigorously into the surface to ensure full contact.
- Apply the render or screed immediately while the slurry is 'tacky'.
3. Renders, Screeds & Mortars
When used as an admixture, KA-Bond SBR significantly improves the flexural and tensile strength of cementitious mixes. It reduces the water-cement ratio, leading to improved density and chemical resistance.
- Incorporate into the gauging water for a uniform distribution throughout the mix.
- Keep the mix as dry as possible to achieve maximum performance.
- Ensure standard curing practices are followed, especially in direct sunlight or wind.
